Amit Singhal is a senior vice president and software engineer at Google Inc., a Google Fellow, and the head of Google’s core ranking team. He has worked in the field of search for over fifteen years, first as an academic researcher and now as a Google engineer. His research interests include information retrieval, its application to web search, web graph analysis, and user interfaces for search. Prior to joining Google in 2000, Amit was a senior member of technical staff at AT&T Labs

Singhal is also the author of two publications: Efficient Multicast Algorithms for Switch based Irregular Heterogeneous Networks of Workstations and Terabit Switching: A survey of Techniques and Current Products.

Singhal obtained his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from IIT Roorkee, India, and his M.S. from the University of Minnesota. He also holds a Ph.D.in computer science from Cornell University.
