Baroness Shriti Vadera, MA served as Minister for Economic Competitiveness & Enterprise and Minister for International Development in the British Government from 2007 to 2009.

Before joining the Council of Economic Advisers, Baroness Vadera held various corporate and project finance, government advisory, and banking and capital markets roles with SG Warburg/UBS from 1984 to 1999, advising on banking, capital markets, project finance and corporate finance internationally.

Prior to her Ministerial role, from April 1999 to March 2007, she was Adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Council of Economic Advisers, HM Treasury, where She had been responsible for advising on international financial and developmentpolicy, business and city issues, productivity, enterprise, PPPs, public enterprises and amongst other things, was responsible for the creation of the Shareholder Executive and the Better Regulation.

Baroness Vadera also advised governments of developing countries on a range ofissues such as debt restructuring. spent 14 years in investment banking at UBS Warburg, where she specialised in advisory work in emerging markets.

She has wide-ranging experience in finance, economics and public policy as well as extensive experience of emerging markets and international institutions. She previously held a series of ministerial positions in the UK government, most latterly Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Economic Competitiveness and Enterprise in the Cabinet Office and Department for Business, Innovation & Skills.

Since leaving the UK Government in October 2009, Baroness Vadera has undertaken senior policy and advisory assignments for the G20 Chair, the Dubai Government in relation to the Dubai World debt restructuring and for Temasek Holdings, Singapore.

She has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of BHP Billiton Ltd. and BHP Billiton Plc since January 1, 2011. She has been a Non-Executive Director of AstraZeneca PLC since January 1, 2011. Baroness Vadera serves as a Director at BHP Billiton Group.

She served as a Trustee of Oxfam from 2000 to 2005. Baroness Vadera studied Philosophy, Politics & Economics at Oxford.
