Decker Anstrom serves as a Member of the Board of Directors at IEL, Discovery Communications and several nonprofit environmental groups: Island Press, Climate Central, Planet Forward and the National Environmental Education Foundation, where he is currently Chairman.

During 2011-2012, Anstrom, served as U.S. Ambassador and head of the U.S. delegation to the 2012 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-12), held under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union.

Anstrom retired as President of Landmark Communications and Chairman of the Board of Directors at The Weather Channel Companies in late 2008, following Landmark’s sale of The Weather Channel to NBC.

Anstrom also served as a Member of the Board of Directors at the Comcast Corporation from 2001-2011 and chaired the Comcast Board’s Governance Committee and the Board of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Prior to his positions at Landmark (headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia), Anstrom had a long career in public service and in the communications industry. During the Carter Administration, Anstrom was a senior staff member in the White House Office of Management and Budget, working on the creation of the U.S. Department of Education, and later served in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.

Anstrom subsequently joined and later became President of Public Strategies, a Washington-based public policy consulting firm, where he directed a broad range of public policy and economic analyses for investment banking, corporate, and non-profit clients.

In 1987 Anstrom joined the National Cable Television Association (NCTA) as Executive Vice President; he became President and Chief Executive Officer in 1994. During his tenure Anstrom led the cable industry’s efforts that helped result in the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

In 1999, Anstrom joined The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) in Atlanta, GA as President and Chief Executive Officer.

In 2002, Anstrom became President of Landmark Communications, a privately held diversified media company that owned newspapers, local television stations, database centers, print and classified advertising businesses and The Weather Channel Companies. In that position Anstrom also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at TWCC.

In addition, Anstrom served on numerous cable industry boards (including NCTA, which he chaired for two years) and two nonprofit boards in the Hampton Roads area: the Chrysler Museum and public television and radio broadcaster WHRO.

Anstrom received a B.A. degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended the Woodrow Wilson Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University for one year.
