Eric Zhang is Managing Director and Head of General Atlantic’s China business. He joined the firm in 2016.

Eric was previously a Global Partner and Managing Director at The Carlyle Group, where he focused on investment opportunities in Asia from 2006 to 2016. Eric is currently an independent director on the board of 58.com and has previously served on the board of China Reading, SouFun, Yashili, Plateno Group, Crystal Orange Hotel Group, Kaiycan Hotel Group, New Century Asset Management Co. Ltd., and AnNeng Logistics Group. He also spearheaded the establishment of the Carlyle Beijing Partner – RMB Fund and served as a board member for both the GP and the management company.

Before joining Carlyle in 2006, Mr. Zhang was a Vice President of M&A at Credit Suisse, based in the firm’s Hong Kong office. Prior to that, he was a Vice President of the investment banking division at China International Capital Corporation Limited in Beijing.

Eric received an M.A. in economics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
