Liran Belenzon is a co-founder and the CEO of BenchSci. After achieving his law degree and selling his first startup, he immigrated to Canada to do his MBA at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. While at Rotman, he worked in the Creative Destruction Lab, which revived his entrepreneurial fire. He met three Ph.D. students who were working to discover how AI could solve the declining productivity of drug discovery due to avoidable inefficiencies in preclinical research. Together, they founded BenchSci in 2015. BenchSci is a machine learning-based startup that has taught a computer to read scientific papers like a Ph.D. scientist. Their AI-Assisted Reagent Selection application decodes experimental text and images to present relevant figures and insights—enabling scientists to reduce time and uncertainty during the reagent and model system selection process. Using the app, scientists are able to access data on more than 30 million experiments and over 60 million products—including antibody, protein, cell, animal model, PCR, CRISPR, and RNAi products.
