Ms. MacDonald has more than 25 years of experience in the civil service. She was appointed deputy minister of Finance and Treasury Board in the fall of 2013.

Most recently, Ms. MacDonald was deputy minister of the Treasury Board Office. With a prior appointment in 2008, she became the first deputy minister of the new Department of Labour and Workforce Development.

Previously, she was deputy minister of Treasury and Policy Board, a senior solicitor with the Department of Justice, and legal advisor to a number of government departments, including the departments of Natural Resources and Finance.

Ms. MacDonald is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie law school. Prior to joining government, she was in private legal practice and is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society and the Canadian Bar Association.
