Philip Madvig, MD, is the interim chief medical officer for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals. In this role, Dr. Madvig has responsibility for Kaiser Permanente’s national quality strategy in partnership with clinical and operations leaders across the enterprise. He helps ensure the organization’s members and communities receive the best quality and service Kaiser Permanente offers, and advocates for the advancement of evidence-based medicine and proven innovation for the industry.Dr. Madvig reports directly to Kaiser Permanente’s chairman and chief executive officer and is a member of the National Executive Team.Dr. Madvig joined Kaiser Permanente in 1983 and has more than 30 years of significant quality, operations, and executive leadership experience.In 2018, Dr. Madvig joined the Kaiser Permanente Interregional Medicare Program Management Office, collaborating with health plan and medical group executives to lead improvements in Medicare care delivery and financial performance. As associate executive director for The Permanente Medical Group for 20 years, he partnered with health plan and hospital leaders in Northern California to oversee the region’s quality strategy.Dr. Madvig is a member of the Marin Community Clinics Medical Advisory Committee. He has served on the boards of directors of the Integrated Healthcare Association and the Garfield Memorial Fund and was a member of the Committee on Performance Measurement for the National Committee for Quality Assurance.Dr. Madvig received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, a master’s degree in nutritional sciences from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente’s San Francisco Medical Center.
