Robert E. Cawthorn retired in 2001 as a Managing Director of Global Health Care Partners of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, specializing in private equity investment in health care businesses worldwide. He retired as Chief Executive Officer of Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Inc. in May 1995 and as Chairman in May 1996, after nearly four decades in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and animal health industries.

Mr. Cawthorn was an executive with Pfizer International for 17 years and was the first president of Biogen Inc. before joining Rorer Group in 1982.

Mr. Cawthorn is on the Board of Directors of Actelion Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and also serves on the boards of private companies and not-for-profit institutions, including Biodesix, Cambridge in America, and the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (Trustee Emeritus).

Mr. Cawthorn is a graduate of Cambridge University, England and lives in Bermuda and London, England.
