Sam is a co-founder and Partner with Highland Europe focusing on investments in growth stage internet and software businesses. Sam represents Highland Europe on the Boards of adjust, Brandwatch, MatchesFashion.com, Outfittery and is involved in the investments in GetYourGuide.com and NewVoiceMedia.Before joining Highland, Sam was a Vice President at Insight Venture Partners in New York where he spent over 6 years investing in expansion stage software and internet-enabled businesses.

While at Insight Sam was involved with investments in 3P Learning, Beatport, Groupalia, Mentez, Netsmart Technologies (acquired by Genstar Capital), OverDrive, PerTrac Financial Solutions, Primavera Systems (acquired by Oracle), Privalia and Studio Moderna. Sam previously spent time working in software development at S.H. Brooks Co. and Cognos (acquired by IBM).Sam holds a Dip. Computer Science from University of Cambridge and an A.B., Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard College.

As a former member of the U.S. National Rowing Team and Cambridge University Blue Boat, Sam has a strong interest in amateur sports. In addition to rowing, he enjoys cycling, swimming and cross-country skiing. A native of Boston, USA, Sam keeps a close eye on the Red Sox and Patriots from London, where he lives with his wife, son and daughter.
