Stephen Bayly has been with HSBC since 1997, starting as a developer in the Asset Management Group. He has been Head of HSBC Securities Services (HSS) Technology since February 2014, including additional responsibilities for Product Control and Markets Operations technology until 2018. Since May 2018, he has had responsibility over all Technology and Change for HSS . Stephen has been a part of the IT organisation in HSBC for 18 years. His first role with the bank was as a developer in Asset Management after a brief stint developing software in the travel industry. A senior technology leader, he has hands-on experience of all aspects of software delivery, from sales and financial business case through to development, deployment and support. He has delivered several high profile and complex strategic initiatives including many external, client-facing programmes. A career in technology wasn't always on the cards. Stephen once made a record with Art Garfunkel, and sang on live TV with Keith Chegwin as a teenager. A less-than-obvious next career move was to obtain an MPhil in Epidemiology and from there to move into software development. He has a dual reporting line into his wife Caroline and their two daughters, who judging by their addiction to Minecraft have inherited the technology bug. With what remains of his time, he enjoys singing, reading, and watching and participating in a variety of sports. He once played cricket against the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and even outscored him (although Sachin did later get him out!).
